Concept
In the film, the elites are showered with extravagance and given special treatments, while the poor only have roaches to feed on. Through the concept of "Food," the sequence highlights the varying perspectives of how the rich and the poor perceive each other.

From the bottom, the fruits seem fresh with butterflies looming over, which represents how the poor view the rich. As the camera travels up and tilts downwards, the fruits are actually rotten and infested with maggots, which represents how the rich view the poor. In the end, there are shadows of butterflies over the fruits suggesting that the poor will always be under the rich.

Process Every aspect of our project was a collaborative process — from ideation, collecting references, and final compositing. In order to convey a realistic yet ornamental aesthetic of the sequence, we decided to combine 3D renders with photo compositing and paint over the frames.

For the references, we studied both still-life paintings and photography to determine the visual style of the sequence. Because the sequence start with grapes, one of our main focus during the research phase was the subsurface scattering of grapes in various lighting, how it looked in real life versus in paintings, etc.

We envisioned this title sequence to have slow, eerie motion throughout the entire duration. During the sketching phase, we focused heavily on the scale, movement, and angle to convey the motion through style frames.
